Apple, which was launched as an alternative to the IBM universe, now lords it over the competition in the mobile field. The past quarter serves as proof, with above 37 million iPhones plus 15 million iPads that had been sold. This was their best performing quarters and its stock has gone up in NASDAQ’s performance chart.
There would be people who would say that the sudden growth would be because of profit margins for mobile phone sales. There is enough convicing data regarding Apple’s growth, and with the revenue share nearing Samsung’s profit shares seem to show 75% dominance in the entire market.
Revenue and profit margin for unit sales does not appear to be the whole story. Think that Apple has the ability for leverageing the image of the mobile devices to grab a big share of the app sales commissions, digital sales, renting and subscriptions. Even other competitors had to get a chunk of hardware and looked to give away free tablets to developers of apps.
As the market grows wider for Apple hopes to break records once more, with anticipation for the iPhone 5 and iPad 3. But the future would not appear like that of their competition. Apple though would have to have a better advertising platform. The iAds would have to be at par with Google.
If you do mobile marketing, you may want to consider the following:
1) Make the apps for the biggest mobile phones in order to leverage the hugest market shares. Apple will give great iOS emulators plus development kits however not the biggest turnaround time for app submissions, so you have to do this in advance.
2) Keep your expectations regarding large traffic or lead generation from Apple iAd low. The inventory would not just be ther yet. You would need to keep to Google plus Milennial Media for the buys on mobile.
3) Make sure everything is tracked. Mobile analytics have developed ove th years with a lot of data points for mobile device native code. Do not spend with no success measures ready. Apple had made a relaxation of third party analytics policy in the recent past, so capitalize on this.
4) Begin optimizing sites for famous mobile devices as well as those that have downloads like podcasts, apps and digital media. Consider HTML 5 to Flash for compatibility over at Apple.
